Stratford Station - Eastern Egress is the first project
to be completed in London for the 2012 Olympics
and has been built to cater for the increased
passenger flows expected during the Olympic
Games. The new buildings consist of a Vertical
Circulation Core containing lift, stairs and escalators
linking the platforms to a Bridge Structure which
allows the passengers to cross over the tracks at
high level, with gates and ticketing machines linking
to the Olympic site.
The buildings are designed to have a harmonious
character in their geometry, proportions and the
materials used. The transparent quality of the box
emphasised by the use of clear glass panels provide
passengers with a sense of protection from the
elements and a view into the space for a sense of
security. It is a visible beacon from the surrounding
streets and platforms and provide the new building
with its own singular identity. Environmentally the
station maximizes natural lighting and ventilation,
controls solar gain and exploit views from the site.
